Thunder Force III is a horizontal and vertical shoot ’em up developed and published by Technosoft for the Sega Mega Drive and Genesis in 1990. The game places players in control of the FIRE LEO-03 Styx spacecraft on a mission to defeat the ORN Empire, a mechanized force that has taken over the galaxy. Players blast through waves of enemy ships, push through tight corridors, and face large boss encounters across a series of visually distinct planets. What sets Thunder Force III apart from other shooters of its era is the weapon system, which gives players access to multiple distinct firepower options they can carry and switch between on the fly.
