Intelligent Systems developed Advance Wars: Dual Strike, a turn-based strategy game Nintendo published for the Nintendo DS in 2005. The title stands as the third entry in the Advance Wars series and marks the franchise's debut on DS hardware. Players command armies of soldiers, tanks, helicopters, and naval units across grid-based maps, capturing properties and destroying enemy forces to win. The game takes the strong tactical foundation that earlier Game Boy Advance entries established and adds new mechanics that make full use of the DS dual-screen layout. The standout new feature is the dual Commanding Officer system, which lets players field two COs at once during battle. Each CO brings unique powers and abilities, and pairing them together opens up tactical combinations that earlier games never offered. The colorful art style, memorable cast of characters, and deeply engaging strategic gameplay make Dual Strike one of the strongest titles across the entire Advance Wars franchise.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike packs in a campaign mode that runs across 38 missions, following a new story where players fight off the Black Hole Army's return. Outside the campaign, the War Room offers standalone maps across a range of difficulty levels, giving players extra challenges to tackle at any time. A Map Design mode lets players build custom battlefields and share them, which adds strong replay value beyond the core content. The game also brings several new unit types to the battlefield, including the Megatank, Stealth fighter, Piperunner, and Oozium, which all expand the tactical choices players must weigh turn by turn. Local wireless multiplayer supports up to four players competing on the same map, and the download play feature means all four players can join with just one game cartridge between them. Certain maps place a second battle on the top screen at the same time, adding a layer of strategy that tests players on two fronts at once. Dual Strike is a rich, rewarding experience that any strategy fan should play.
