Bleach The Blade of Fate is a 2D fighting game based on the popular Tite Kubo manga and anime series. Sega published the title for the Nintendo DS in 2007 in Japan and brought it to Western audiences shortly after. Treasure, the studio behind classics like Guardian Heroes and Gunstar Heroes, handled development and brought their signature combat design to the handheld. The game runs on both screens at once, with the action playing across the top and bottom displays to give players a tall vertical battlefield. Fighters can leap between an upper and lower plane during battle, which adds a fresh tactical layer rarely seen in the genre. The roster features more than 25 characters from the Soul Society arc, including Ichigo, Rukia, Renji, Byakuya, and many captains and lieutenants. Each fighter has unique special attacks, Bankai transformations, and signature finishers pulled straight from the source material. Fans of the series find a faithful tribute, while fighting game players get tight controls and quick matches.

The game offers a wide range of modes to keep players busy. Arcade mode lets you pick a fighter and battle through a series of opponents to reach a final showdown. Story mode follows plot lines from the anime with cutscenes and dialogue between matches. Versus mode supports local wireless multiplayer for up to four players, so you can host a tournament with friends using a single cartridge through download play. Training mode helps newcomers practice combos and learn each character before going online or competing. The fighting system uses a card mechanic where players collect spirit cards that grant special abilities, healing, or attack boosts during matches. This adds a strategic element on top of the standard punch, kick, and block inputs. Stages drawn from key locations in the show include Karakura Town rooftops, the Senkaimon gate, and Sokyoku Hill. Quick rounds, deep character variety, and faithful presentation make this one of the best anime fighters on the Nintendo DS and a strong pick for any handheld fighter library.
