Overview
Classic NES Series: Mega Man is an action-platformer developed and published by Capcom for the Game Boy Advance, released in 2004 as part of the Classic NES Series lineup. The game is a faithful port of the original Mega Man, which first appeared on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987. Players take control of Mega Man, a robot created by the scientist Dr. Light, and must battle through a series of stages that the villain Dr. Wily designed. The core gameplay centers on running, jumping, and shooting through side-scrolling levels filled with enemies and obstacles. What makes this entry stand out is its iconic stage-select system, which lets players choose the order they tackle the six Robot Masters. Defeating each Robot Master earns Mega Man that boss’s signature weapon, encouraging players to find the most effective order of attack and adding a layer of strategy rarely seen in platformers of its era.
The GBA version of Mega Man delivers a single-player experience that stays true to the original game, giving players access to six main stages tied to each Robot Master, plus Dr. Wily’s fortress stages that open once all six bosses fall. Players collect special weapons from defeated Robot Masters, including the Hyper Bomb, Fire Storm, Rolling Cutter, and Thunder Beam, each carrying its own strengths and weaknesses against specific enemies. Mega Man also carries his default arm cannon, the Mega Buster, which handles most combat situations across every stage. Enemies drop energy pellets that restore health and weapon power, keeping combat rewarding throughout. The GBA hardware gives the port a crisp screen with minimal input lag, preserving the tight controls that made the original game a classic. The challenge of finding the right weapon order and mastering each stage gives the game strong replay value, making it a solid addition to the Classic NES Series library.
