Overview
Ghost Squad is a light gun shooter game developed by Sega AM2 and published by Sega for the Nintendo Wii in 2007. The game started life as a popular arcade title before it made the jump to home consoles, where it took full advantage of the Wii Remote for pointer based aiming. Players take on the role of elite counter terrorist operatives tasked with rescuing hostages, defusing bombs, and taking down enemy forces across three main missions. Each level branches into different paths depending on player choices and skill, giving the campaign solid replay value despite its short length. The game shines because of its fast pace, simple controls, and arcade style scoring system that rewards accuracy and quick thinking. Players can crouch behind cover, perform melee takedowns on close enemies, and disarm hostage situations with careful aim. The Wii version keeps the spirit of the original arcade cabinet intact while adding home friendly extras that make repeated playthroughs feel fresh and rewarding for fans of the shooter genre.
A two player cooperative mode lets a friend join in with a second Wii Remote, doubling the on screen action and making team based tactics possible during heated firefights. Players earn experience points after every run, which raise their character rank and open up new weapons such as machine guns, sniper rifles, shotguns, and even a paintball gun for sillier matches. Costume unlocks let players dress their operative as a panda, ninja, or hula girl, adding a layer of humor to the otherwise serious military setting. The three main stages, an airliner rescue, a jungle compound assault, and a city building siege, each contain multiple branching routes that change based on the player decisions made mid mission. A training mode also lets newer players practice their aim before jumping into the main campaign. Ghost Squad delivers a tight arcade experience that feels right at home on the Wii and remains one of the most enjoyable light gun shooters available for the console.
