Overview

Jak II is an action-adventure platformer developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2. Released in 2003, the game marks a dramatic shift from its predecessor, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, trading colorful open environments for a gritty, crime-ridden city called Haven City. Players carry four guns and can upgrade each one into a more powerful form by collecting dark eco orbs scattered around Haven City. These weapons range from a rapid-fire scatter gun to a heavy-hitting wave concussor, giving players different tools for different combat situations. Haven City itself serves as a large hub world split into distinct districts, including the slums, the port, the bazaar, and the palace area, each with its own visual style and roster of residents. Outside the city, Jak travels to outdoor locations and industrial facilities to complete story missions, offering a break from the dense urban environment. The game packs over 300 missions, side quests, and collectible challenges across all these areas. With tight controls, a memorable cast, a strong narrative, and a satisfying blend of combat and platforming, Jak II stands as one of the best action games the PlayStation 2 has to offer.
