Overview
Saints Row The Third is a wild open world action game developed by Volition and published by THQ. The story drops players into the city of Steelport, where the Third Street Saints have grown from a street gang into a global brand with movies, energy drinks, and bobbleheads. A rival group called the Syndicate tries to take everything away, and the player must fight back through the streets, rooftops, and skies of the city. The game throws out the gritty tone of older entries and replaces it with pure comedy, over the top action, and a sense that anything can happen. Players can punch civilians with giant purple weapons, jump from skydiving planes into helicopters, and call in tiger sidekicks during car chases. The character creator gives wide freedom, letting players design any look they want. Steelport itself is a colorful sandbox packed with side missions, hidden collectibles, and chaotic events that reward creative play. The mix of crime drama spoof and action movie spectacle gives this title its own loud identity.
The campaign supports two player online co-op across every mission, so friends can cause mayhem together from start to finish. Activities include Insurance Fraud, where players throw their bodies into traffic for cash, Professor Genki’s Mayhem, a deadly game show, and tank rampages through downtown blocks. The weapon list ranges from sniper rifles and grenades to a giant fish bat called the Penetrator, an air strike laptop, and a mind control gun that turns enemies into allies. Vehicles cover sports cars, jets, hoverbikes, and a flying VTOL with miniguns and missiles. A respect system rewards stunts and stylish kills with cash and upgrade points, letting players buy stores, customize gear, and pick perks like infinite sprint or bullet resistance. Boss fights stay memorable thanks to wrestlers, hackers, and luchadores leading each faction. The mix of freedom, humor, and constant rewards makes Saints Row The Third one of the loudest sandbox games of its era.
